"Rabbit" is a song dedicated to my goddaughter, Freya Rabbit Sanko. It is inspired by Rabbit, the late pet of Freya's parents, Erik Sanko and Jessica Grindstaff, and draws lyrics from the Wallace Stevens poem, "A Rabbit as King of the Ghosts."
After Rabbit passed away in 2004, her body was sent to North Carolina to the teenage taxidermist, Amy Ritchie. She returned to New York beautifully preserved with one peculiar detail. On one side of her face she bears a neutral expression, and on the other a beguiling smile.
lyrics
At the end of the day
The shapeless shadow covers the sun
Nothing is left except the light on your face
East rushes West
And West rushes down
Feel that the light
Of the whole of the wideness of night
Is for you
Father John Misty is so good to listen to when I want to relax. My cat used to seem to like the music too, and we would both chill and listen to the FJM vinyls I own. This album on bandcamp was a nice FJM treat. Michelle May
